Billy Button

Jo Marsh is not a box ticker. She embraces every task with great expectation and seeks out the path less travelled. With a focus on alternate varietals, Jo produces an astounding array of wines, which, including cellar door only wines, comprises over 20 different varietals, some in miniscule quantities. Working closely with local growers, Jo has helped to breathe new life into this tiny wine region, and shine a light on the breadth and depth of the grape varietal variation that we have in Australia. Jo follows no rule book, she believes in doing what’s best for the wine, polishing and perfecting, highlighting the fruit and sculpting the palate so the wine flows through the mouth with texture and interest.

The Alpine Range

The "Alpine” range are value wines made to offer immediate enjoyment to the consumer. The range is made up of a Prosecco, Bianco, Rosato, Rosso and a Sparkling Red. Components vary year to year depending on the season and careful blending is used to create interesting wines featuring an abundance of varieties. Even though this range is made on a slightly larger scale than other Billy Button wines, all the components are made using a small batch ethos and are kept separate until the final blending.

Production Notes

A small batch ethos was implemented with all batches kept separate until the final blending. Wines were fermented in stainless steel using indigenous and selected yeast strains depending on the batch. Some batches were matured on yeast lees for up to 9 months. Vermentino forms the core of the blend with its great fruit intensity and Friulano and Verduzzo provide texture and depth.
