Dune | McLaren Vale
The next generation of the Lloyd family (Coriole) planting their flag in the Vale.
A new project from brothers Duncan and Peter Lloyd, Dune Wines sees them step out from the shadow of Coriole wines. Sourcing fruit from a single vineyard in the Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale. Organic-in-conversion, this sandy vineyard has been completely re-imagined since being purchased by the brothers in 2009. Planting and grafting over southern Mediterranean varietals has seen them create a unique range of blends alongside some classic and SO2-free Shiraz.
2022 BONAIRE ROSÉ
The BONAIRE ROSÉ is made from Carignan, Sangiovese and Shiraz that are picked and press together. Approximately half is fermented in seasoned oak, ambient temp, wild ferment on full solids. The other portion is fermented in steel on light lees and at a cooler temp. Post-ferment the two portions are blended back together and mature in seasoned oak on light lees for 6 months prior to bottling.
The style is bone dry but full of texture. Aromas of red cherry, sweet herbs and orange blossom, with tangerine, wild strawberry and spiced citrus on the palate.
"Quite pleasing to see a rosé of this style released with a little bottle age. Bone dry, a little spicy, gentle oxidative character, red cherry, orange and a smattering of dried herb and rose petal. It has a nice crunch to it, even a little bit nutty, with a fine chalky finish of good length. Very stylish and quite adult in style. 91 points"
