Zonzo Estate, Yarra Valley, Victoria.
Led by winemaker Caroline Mooney, Zonzo vintages are made in small batches by hand. Every season is different, so their wines are too. Zonzo make wine how it’s always been done — picked from the vineyard, stomped, shovelled, plunged — all by hand (and foot) in their winery.
Estate Shiraz 2021
For those looking for a classic Shiraz.
Initially, you're presented with dark brooding red fruits, spice and pepper. The savoury perfume intertwines on the nose with oak and berries and is generous, concentrated and fresh. A go-to Shiraz for catching up with friends. Enjoy with a good steak, burger or wood-fired pizza.
Tasting Notes
Dark brooding red fruits, spice and pepper are the hallmarks of this shiraz. The savoury perfume intertwines on the nose with oak and berries and is generous, concentrated and fresh. The palate reflects the perfume initially but extends further to fine tannin texture and cool climate shiraz elegance on the palate. Beautiful French oak plays nicely on the palate with the fruit profile and supports the spice driving the length.
Process
Harvested on the 16th and 19th of March 2021. Ferments were plunged initially then pumped over daily. At around day 6 the ferment was run down and skins were worked by foot to start building tannin structure. Primary fermentation was completed after 12 days. Pressed after 19 days and filled to oak with a portion being 20% new french oak barrels.
