PENNA LANE – CLARE VALLEY, SA
Penna Lane’s winemaker, Peter Treloar, has a connection with the Clare wine region that began five generations ago. In 1865 Peter’s ancestor, Francis Treloar, acquired land in Watervale and planted the first vines in the area which became known as Springvale. The Penna Lane vines were planted from 1996 to 1998 . The vineyard is recognised as one of the best in the Clare Valley. Growing at an elevation of approximately 450 metres, the grapes benefit from a long, slow ripening period, which intensifies their flavour. Mostly dry grown, the vines are watered only during periods of extreme dryness.
Skilly Valley Riesling 2024
The vines are grown in sandy loam soils over broken quartz, in Darry Honey’s Skilly Valley vineyard, in a sub-region of Watervale. Running north to south on the valley floor, the vines are protected from the extremes of the summer sun by the valley sides.
The grapes from these vines produce Riesling with aromas of apple blossom and a naturally crisp acidic background. The palate is citrus with peach and tropical notes.
