Thistledown Wine Company
Thistledown is the vision of Master of Wine, Giles Cooke. Working with Grenache growers in unique sites across Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and Riverland, Giles makes elegant, fine, aromatic reds. Choosing to focus on the Grenache grape shows the belief Giles has in this special variety. Thistledown Grenaches are made in small quantities in the Adelaide Hills.
Gorgeous Grenache Rosé
Grenache is Australia’s signature grape variety and we’re slightly obsessed with it. The white version is still rare in Australia but capable of beautifully textured, citrus laced wines of great drinkability.
Tasting Notes
This beautifully pale rosé has lovely aromatic wild strawberry and cranberry notes on the nose. The palate is tangy, dry and textural with creamy berry fruit and a deliciously moreish finish.
Winemaking
Fruit was hand-picked before gentle de-stemming and crushing followed by 3.5 hours on skins to extract minimal colour. A cool fermentation followed which retained the aromatic, herbal notes and focussed the crisp, textural palate. Maturation on lees for 2 months helped increased texture prior to bottling.
