Peter Lehmann of the Barossa Valley
At Peter Lehmann Wines the art of winemaking goes hand in hand with the many people, stories and wines that make the Barossa famous.
It is now part of Barossa legend that Peter Lehmann established the winery in the late 1970s, to protect the livelihood of growers who were facing financial ruin. To this day over 140 growers, some 5th & 6th generation, supply the winery with fruit from the very best vineyards throughout the Barossa. These amazing grape resources enable Peter Lehmann to make wines for every occasion, each one crafted to deliver on quality.
Barossa Excellence Collection
The backbone of Peter Lehmann Wines is the independent grape growers and more than 900 individual vineyards laid across the length and breadth of the Barossa landscape. Our relationships with the Barossa growers as well as knowledge of the provenance and pedigree of their vineyards, has no peer in the Barossa winemaking community. This loyal bond and legacy gives us unrivalled access to the best vineyards. These exceptional vineyards are the heart of this collection of rare wines that define excellence in Barossa winemaking.
Barossa Excellence Margaret Barossa Semillon
Peter Lehmann Wines has always had enormous faith in Barossa
Semillon and believe it is a unique Australian white wine style. This wine is named in honour of ‘Margaret’, Peter Lehmann’s wife, who is a proclaimed champion of Barossa Semillon and a feisty supporter of all good things Barossan, including Peter himself.
Our faith has been challenged over the past 30 years, but at Peter Lehmann Wines, we made a commitment to our growers to champion Barossa Semillon to the world with all the energy and passion we could muster. In so doing these old vineyards are preserved by our growers and we’re rewarded with access to a rich choice of vineyards to select the very finest semillon for the Margaret Barossa Semillon each year.
Released as a 5 year old wine the Margaret is a fruit driven, deliciously dry, white wine that reflects our obsession with Barossa Semillon and our commitment to champion this wine style to the world.
Tasting Notes
Winemaker Notes This aged Semillon has developed an attractive pale straw colour with a green hue, displaying hints of lemon curd, zest and green melon. The finish is crisp with a mouth-watering acidity derived from the cool conditions of this vintage.
Production Fruit was picked early and fermented cold in stainless steel to retain fruit delicacy. Following a two week fermentation, the wine was clarified and bottled before being cellared for 5 years in the Peter Lehmann winery prior to release.
