Montgó, Jumilla, Spain
You will not find a better example of a creative explosion than with Montgó Monastrell. A novel Spanish wine that energizes the market with fresh new modern style wine. What we mean by "new modern style” is when you open this bottle you will be hit by the fruity aromas of the Monastrell: juicy jammy blackberry, dark cherry and spicy black pepper characteristic that the grapes have absorbed from their environment. We offer you a wine that focuses on the fruit, using just 6 months of aging with French oak so the purity of the fruit is maintained and the oak character just rounds out the delicious fruit. The namesake Montgó mountain inspired founder to launch a good product to meet the highest expectations of the consumer; it inspired our winemaker to create wines rich in character and unforgettable in expression
WINEMAKING
The grapes were handpicked at the optimum stage of ripeness from end-September throughout mid-October. Temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks of 20-40.000 kilos at 24-30ºC. Up to 26 days maceration. Pressed and racked to epoxy lined cement tanks where the wine underwent malolactic fermentation. Racked into a combination of 100% French oak barrels where it was aged for 6 months. The wine was bottles after fining and filtration.
TASTING NOTES
Intense dark cherry red in color, with an expressive nose of blueberry, black cherry and cedar wood with nicely incorporated notes of rose petals, liquorice and toasted oak. Layered and ripe on the palate with firm tannins. This is a tasty, fruit forward effort that will deliver plenty of pleasure.
