Yabby Lake
Yabby Lake Vineyard was established by the Kirby family in 1998, in Tuerong, which is located in the northern end of the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. Over the past decade, the vineyard has built a reputation for chardonnay and pinot noir of great purity and character under its Single Vineyard and Single Block Release labels.
Led by winemaker Tom Carson, the Yabby Lake philosophy is to craft wines that speak of our site and the season in which they were grown. It’s the attention and care in the vineyard that is most critical to allowing this expression.
The producer’s vision and dedication has led to some exciting accolades in recent years, including their history-making Block 1 Pinot Noir - which was the first pinot noir ever to win the revered Jimmy Watson Trophy, after 52 years of the award.
Tasting Notes
Vinification
The fruit was handpicked on 3 March and whole bunch pressed. The juice was then cold settled and wild fermented with 50% in stainless steel and 50% in old French puncheons (500L).
Aroma
The wine is refined and fresh, with bright fruit aromas and a lovely floral lift.
Palate
Beautifully textured palate, delicious depth of fruit – with nashi pear and subtle spice. Seamless and refreshing, the wine finishes long and fine.
Vintage Notes
The 2017 vintage is a classic in the making. A mild but windy spring lead into a cool summer and extended autumn. The wines are classically proportioned and destined for a long life.

95 Points
Hand-picked solely from Block 2, wholebunch pressed, part fermented in used French puncheons. The aromas of the bouquet are positively heady with floral cherry blossom, then a textured and intense palate with far more to say for itself than all but a few of its combatants.
