Mitchell, Clare Valley
Jane and Andrew Mitchell established the winery in 1975 on the Mitchell family property in the western hills of the Clare Valley in South Australia. An old sandstone apple store was converted to serve as a rustic cellar door sales area. Continued growth has resulted in further development of the winery buildings and winemaking plant.
Currently some 500-700 tonnes of premium fruit is crushed and processed in a well equipped modern winery. The imposing two-storey century-old family home sits amid the vineyards, overlooking the winery.
Mitchell McNicol Riesling
Tasting Notes
Grapes/Blend
100% Riesling
Appearance
Bright yellow straw colour with a watery hue.
Palate
This is a rich, ripe luscious Riesling in the best Alsace style, with the aged Riesling hallmarks of toast and butter. It’s the concentrated rich fruit that dominates in this mouth-filling powerhouse of Riesling. This wine is bottle aged prior to release.
Vintage Notes
A welcome wet autumn and winter in 2008 was a great foundation for the spring/summer growing period. The fruit, although still extremely low yielding, enjoyed a relatively mild summer before picking.
Cellaring Potential
Drink over the next 1-2 years.
