Clarence House was built in 1830 at Clarence Plains, Mt Rumney, just north of Hobart in Southern Tasmania. The beautiful Georgian house built around 1830 remains and has been maintained in its original splendour surrounded by beautiful gardens, and in 1998 present owner David Kilpatrick began planting vines on an impressive and ideally positioned north east sloping block opposite the house.
Over 8ha of the total 12ha of plantings consists of Pinot Noir and chardonnay, with the remainder including Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Tempranillo. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines have until 2014 been produced by Julian Alcorso at Winemaking Tasmania. Wines from the remaining varieties have been made by Alain Rousseau at the highly acclaimed Frogmore Creek Wines.
In 2014 a small batch of Pinot Noir from the oldest vines was vinified by Anna Pooley at Pooley Wines who are located just a few minutes north at Richmond. The results were extremely encouraging and from 2015 all Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines have been made Pooley Wines.

Medium garnet red colour. Lifted aromas of spicy red fruits with vibrancy depth and finesse with more of a Burgundian than new world feel.  Seemless and vibrant with refreshing lift and just a hint of sappiness that keeps the wine fresh and very long. Very complete and long with beautiful balance.
