Cotes-de-la-Moliere - Isabelle & Bruno Perraud
The Perraud’s are located in a small mountain village called Vauxrenard which is west of Fleurie. This village is located at 500 metres above sea level and only a few brave vignerons remain, given the difficulty of farming such steep slopes. They have been working without any herbicides and pesticides since 2002 after Bruno Perraud fell seriously ill due to extended pesticide exposure. It was at this point that they questioned the addition of these chemicals on their vineyards given the impact that they could have on human life. Since then all the vineyards have been farmed organically and many converted to full biodynamic practices. They are big believers in the positive benefits of bacterial life in the vineyards and surrounds.
2018 PERRAUD LE P’TIT POQUELIN
The fruit for this wine comes from a vineyard in Saint Etienne des Ouillères south of Brouilly. It is cropped at an amazingly low 20hl/ha which is similar to that of Grand Cru Burgundy! This site is certified biodynamic and consists mainly of sand which gives the wine lots of vibrancy. It was tank fermented with indigenous yeasts, 100% whole bunch and carbonic maceration. It received no additions or chaptalisation. No filtration and no added sulphur. This was bottled in January 15, one week before our visit. The total production of this wine is around 200 dozen!
Tasting Notes
Bright violet colour. A powerfully scented bouquet that displays dark fruits, floral pastilles and incense. Sappy, expansive and pure on the palate, offering vibrant concentrated black fruits. Closes extremely focused and minerally. Just plain delicious.
