A well-measured 2022 season in Watervale; good winter rains set the vines off to a nice budburst and canopy development. Warm and dry spring and summer did not worry the vines, and they maintained good canopy condition right through to harvest with no sunburn problems. An excellent harvest of above-average yield and optimum maturity.
Following on from the 2021 vintage the Vickery Watervale Riesling was again sourced from two blocks (Hayshed and Block 1) of the Castine property, as well as a parcel each from the ‘W5’ and ‘G6’ blocks of the Koerner family vineyard. Picking occurred in the early hours of the 25th February with fruit taken immediately to Watervale for pressing; avoiding extended skin contact. Stainless steel fermentation took place at our Barossa winery where all the parcels were kept separate until the final blending.
