Pedra Branca, meaning white rock, is a 2.5 hectare outcrop 25 kms to the South of Tasmania and has been used as the inspiration for an annual project series celebrating the forces of nature, and its capacity to create something unique and remarkable. These wines are only made in small quantities and only when interesting parcels of fruit and the resultant wines are deemed as such.

Mourvedre 2013
Hand-picked from a manicured vineyard in the Stonewell subregion of Barossa Valley. Destemmed only and fermented with indigenous yeast in two small parcels. After a few days of cold maceration, the ferments were hand plunged 3 times a day and allowed to get to 30C. Both parcels were pressed after 21 days 'on skins' with all the free run and pressings combined. Matured in French oak for 20 months and allowed to undergo malolactic fermentation. Minimal fining and no filtration. On the nose, red and black juicy fruits, smokey meats, floral and spice, hints of cedar and cream. The palate explodes with juicy red fruits onto the early and mid palate, with an underlying meatiness and spice building to the late palate. Balanced by fine tannins and a tight finish.
