JJ Hahn
Maria and Johann Christian Hahn arrived in the Barossa
Valley in 1845, and like many early Barossa settlers were of Silesian-German
descent. Early settlers staked out the best of the valley’s farmland, and Maria
and Johann chose a premium block for their vineyard. The JJ Hahn brand was
created in 1997 as a joint venture between sixth generation Hahn custodians, James
and Jacqui Hahn, and Rolf Binder. Today Rolf is co-owner and has retained the
management of the vineyard and the wine making. Wines are only made during the
best vintages, giving the JJ Hahn label a well-deserved reputation for quality
as well as excellent value.

The Winemaking
The Shiraz vines grow on the North-facing slopes of Barossa’s Western Ridge, an area famed for rich, full-flavoured wines. The grapes are sourced from selected parcels from mature vines, drygrown along the western ridge overlooking the Barossa Valley. The grapes are hand-harvested for maximum quality, aged in a mixture of French and American oak barrels, blended to create a juicy vibrant style, enhancing
The Taste and Experience
This opaque dark red, almost black colour wine shares the glass with deep red lights. The nose contains lifted aromas of vanilla, mocha, dark chocolate and liquorice allsorts. The mediumbodied palate is rich and full with matching flavours of dark chocolate, mocha, liquorice and vanilla, refreshing acid and velvety smooth tannins. Good depth with a long finish of mocha, liquorice allsorts and vanilla. It is complex and intense without being overbearing.
