Coal Valley, Tasmania.
Elegant red berry, cassis and white pepper aromas mix with integrated raspberry, spice and smoked lardon flavours. Savoury velvet tannins boost the length.
Nick Glaetzer began his winemaking journey with his family in the Barossa Valley, following with vintages in the Languedoc, the Pfalz, Margaret River, the Riverland, Sunraysia, the Hunter Valley and Burgundy.
In 2005 Nick landed in Tasmania, searching for cool-climate, super-premium vineyards; perfect for crafting pinot noir, riesling and savoury shiraz. Established in 2008, Glaetzer-Dixon is now an eminent Tasmanian winemaker.
Mon Père pays homage to Nick’s father, Baron of Barossa, Colin Glaetzer.
The Glaetzer family emigrated in 1888 to the Barossa Valley from Brandenburg, Germany. 125 years later, Nick has taken four generations of Barossa shiraz winemaking knowledge and applied it to carefully selected parcels of shiraz grapes from the Coal Valley in Southern Tasmania. The 2013 Mon Père Shiraz is a pre-eminent cool-climate shiraz, with flavours and textures evocative of Northern Rhône valley wines, particularly from the Hermitage, Saint Joseph and Côte-Rôtie appellations.
