Medhurst Wines: "Estate Grown, Low Cropped, Hand Made"
Medhurst Wines is the realisation of the long held and shared vision of Ross and Robyn Wilson to make wines of provenance from their Yarra Valley property. Each Medhurst wine reflects the site and variety from which it is made and the season in which it is grown.
The Medhurst Vineyard was particularly chosen for its favourable microclimate, north facing slopes, good drainage and magnificent aspect. It was planted in 2000 with chardonnay, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon and shiraz.
With the sole objective of making the best wine possible, careful vineyard management ensures yields are low, averaging two tonnes per acre and providing intensely flavoured fruit.
Each parcel of fruit receives the same care and attention in the winery as in the vineyard. New and older French oak is used after considering the potential for each parcel. The wines that result are released only when they are ready and are of the standard to which Medhurst is committed. At all times quality is paramount.
Yarra Valley Pinot Noir
The Season
The Medhurst Yarra Valley Pinot Noir has been made with fruit entirely from our estate vineyard. Our MV6 clone was handpicked in February 2018.
Winemaking
10% of the fruit was kept as whole-bunches while the rest of the fruit was destemmed. After 9 months in barrel this wine was held in stainless steel for 1 month before being bottled. It is bright ruby red in appearance with a lovely crimson hue.
Food Pairing
Made to drink early, this wine will cellar over the medium term.
Tasting Notes
Bright ruby red in appearance with a lovely crimson hue. Red cherry, five spice and floral notes dominate the aromas. The palate has a lovely core of red fruit flavours with an energetic mouthfeel and slinky, fine tannins. The finish is fruit-driven and clean.
