Rimu Grove Winery was founded by Patrick Stowe in the rolling hills above the scenic Waimea Estuary. As the winemaker, Patrick‘s search for the ultimate expression of terroir is reflected in his wines: a synergy of Nelson sunshine, moutere clay gravels, maritime microclimate and his pursuit for perfection.
Tasting Notes
A consistent winner. The 2009 vintage, grown in the Moutere hills was mostly handled in tanks, but 15% was lees-aged for four months in seasoned French oak barrels. It‘s a full bodied, rich wine with strong pear and lychee flavours, showing good complexity, a touch of sweetness, moderate acidity and lovely harmony. Best drinking mid 2011 onwards. 4+1/2 stars. Michael Cooper’s Buyer’s Guide to New Zealand Wines 2011
Fresh and full bodied, with a slightly oily texture and strong, gently sweet pear, citrus fruit and peach flavours. Fifteen per cent barrel-ageing adds a touch of complexity. 4 stars, Winestate’s Best Wines of 2010 Annual Edition, 2011.
