Pisa Range Estate
Established in 1995 by Warwick and Jenny Hawker, Pisa Range Estate is a pioneer grape grower of the Pisa district north of Cromwell. It takes its name from the remarkable Pisa Range landscape to the west. Over the last decade the combination of high growing degree days and Waenga sandy loam soils has consistently produced fine wines under the Black Poplar Block label – with the label now rated as a New Zealand Classic pinot noir. The guiding principle in the management of the land – and in the winery – is minimal intervention. The aim is for the wines to express their sense of place.
Tasting Notes
Taut, concentrated picurea with typical (for Central Otago) chalky minerality, lime, citrus and delicate floral flavours. Medium/dry wine that achieves a delicious tension between acidity and sweetness. Very pure with a lengthy finish.
