Franklin River W.A. As is typical of good quality young rieslings, lime aromas are evident, freshly squeezed, green apples too and a faint spring blossom note as the wine opens up. But this is just a prelude to the main act. Immediately upon tasting, the palate is illuminated with explosive, super-crisp fruit flavours - mainly green apples, some citrus zest. A deliciously dry finish implores you to go back for another taste.
The Swinney vineyards are located in close proximity to the Frankland River and are situated midway and higher upslope in the river valley. The vineyards are planted on gravelly ironstone soils over layers of clay loam. These soils, which are ideal for quality wine grape production, provide strong root penetration, warm up quickly in the spring and the clay loam subsoil retains water during dry summer months.
