Babydoll, Marlborough, N.Z.

It’s the little things in life that count and it’s the littlest sheep that help make Babydoll wines. Our sustainable collection of wines are pure and intense with plenty of character, just like the Babydoll sheep we named them after. These tiny sheep keep our vineyards tidy year round because they’re too small to reach the grapes. Using one of nature’s mowers means our wines are better for the environment and taste better too. Celebrate life’s little moments with Babydoll wines.

Growing Conditions

The 2018 was a challenging vintage in NZ due to the effects of three Pacific cyclones. However careful management has delivered yet another wonderful Baby Doll savvy. Successfully harvested in good time, the grapes displayed all of the qualities for which Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has become world-renowned. Distinctively aromatic notes of blackcurrant leaf, wet stone and crushed oyster shell are beautifully balanced by a flinty minerality.

Winemaking

Eight parcels of Sauvignon Blanc were selected for this wine from our vineyards in the Awatere Valley, and four from our vineyards in the Wairau Valley. The parcels were harvested and fermented separately, using selected yeast strains for Sauvignon Blanc to enhance varietal character. A long, cool fermentation took place over four weeks, with the parcels then being blended and stabilised, prior to bottling.

Winemaker Tasting Notes

Parcels from the Awatere Valley and Wairau Valley combine to create a wine brimming with varietal character, balance and elegance. The nose is lifted and fresh with notes of passionfruit and grapefruit. The sweet fruit characters on the palate and fresh acidity combine to create an expressive, classy Sauvignon Blanc. Beautiful with barbequed seafood – especially prawns, fish and also mezze plates.
