Home Vineyard, Sand Road, McLaren Vale. Growers Margaret Leask, Richard and Malcolm Leask. Total area under vine 13 Hectares. The Sand Road Cabernet was established in 1982, Cabernet Franc rootstock, CW44 clone. It is hand spur pruned, single wire cordon. Geology is Christies Beach Formation, alluvial fan of sand, clay and gravel. The soil here is chocolate brown loam with some iron sandstone deposits from the nearby slopes and creek.
COLOUR:
I core with vibrant purple rim.
AROMA:
Fresh black and blue berry
fruits, lifted violet floral, mint chocolate.
PALATE:
Balanced black fruits, fresh acidity, medium body and a silky finish. Minimal oak influence, mocha and nutmeg spice, some forest floor characters which integrate with the black fruits seamlessly.
Black Angus flat iron steak with rocket, grilled pear and walnut salad.
CELLARING
This wine will gain complexity over 5 to 8 years if cellared properly. If opening in its youth, it will benefit from decanting a couple of hours prior to serving.
