Corner of Hunt and Sand Road, McLaren Vale. Growers Margaret Leask, Richard and Malcolm Leask. Grenache (73% of wine) was established in 1960, own rootstock, Heritage clone. It is hand spur pruned, single wire cordon.
Next to the Grenache is the Mataro (27% of wine) established in 2008, Petit Verdot rootstock, G7V1 clone. Geology is Christies Beach Formation, alluvial fan of sand, clay and gravel. The soil here is reddish brown loam with some
iron sandstone deposits from the nearby slopes and creek.

COLOUR:
Bright to dark purple, medium red rim.
AROMA:
Plums, violets, brown earth, cocoa.
PALATE:
Fresh, soft and juicy red and black berries, dark chocolate. Medium structure and good length, complemented by fruitcake spice and some dried woody herbs. All held together by fine sandy tannins from the Grenache, and spicy tannins from the Mataro.

Very versatile with pasta; Rabbit and porcini ragout with papperdelle, or Pork sausages with tagliatelle, mushrooms, fresh herbs. Gouda cheese with fresh fruit.
CELLARING
Very drinkable now, will be interesting to see it develop for 3–5 years.
