The Kennedy Vineyard is located on prime land along the east facing slope of the Mount Camel Range on Heathcote’s famed Cambrian soil. Ten hectares of Shiraz vines were planted in the Kennedy Vineyard in 2002, another 10 hectares in 2003 and a small planting in 2007.
The Mount Camel Range is a ridge which marks the Heathcote fault that runs through Central Victoria. It comprises Cambrian volcanic rock; which is predominantly Greenstone. This rock has weathered to produce fertile red soil with good drainage properties. This together with the elevation, east facing aspect, moderate temperatures and rainfall (backed up by irrigation if required), enables us to produce the high quality grapes for the Kennedy wine.
Pruning has been carefully undertaken to produce vines which are balanced to evenly ripen the crop load.
Kennedy 'Pink Hills' Rose
Region: Heathcote
Oak Treatment: Neutral French Oak
"John & I decided to add some variety to our vineyard in 2007 and planted 1.4Ha Mataro. We hand picked a small quantity this vintage and Sandro Mosele was again excited to make our inaugural Pink Hills Rose. It is made in the southern French style.
We wanted to produce a fresh dry Rose for easy summer drinking. We are thrilled with the resultant salmon hued wine.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Salmon pink
Nose: The aroma is full of summer berries with light floral notes
Palate: Pink Hills is a textural wine with many layers of flavour. The palate is rich with summer berry fruits the finish is dry and savoury. It is great with food, complimenting spicy prawns, chilli crab and smoked trout salad or drink it on its own on a hot Summers day.
