The Vineyard
The vineyard is situated on an east-facing slope just to the south-west of Colbinabbin on the sought after Mt Camel range. The 500 million year old Cambrian bedrock has broken down over the past 400 million years into jasper, greenstone, granite and with weathering Buckshot ironstone pebbles that give the wines their name. The soil has a vivid red colour and is punctuated with the rocks above.
The Zinfandel planting is 1 acre in size, and is planted in the hungrier soils at the bottom of the east-facing slope. These soils are fantastic for keeping the natural vigour of Zinfandel to a minimum.
