Classification: Certified Organic

Riesling wines from the Frankland River region are renowned for their intense varietal flavours and crisp fresh acidity. The Frankland Estate Isolation Ridge Vineyard Riesling is consistently ranked among the best in Australia and has won widespread critical acclaim.

We believe riesling produces the world’s greatest white wines and have made a major commitment to the variety. This is reflected in our sponsorship of the Frankland Estate International Riesling Tasting, a biennial comparative tasting of the world’s greatest dry rieslings, and the Frankland Estate Riesling Scholarship, an annual award to a member of the hospitality or wine industry who has contributed to greater appreciation and enjoyment of riesling wines.

In addition to our Isolation Ridge Vineyard Riesling we also make limited quantities of other single vineyard rieslings from the Frankland River region.

ASSESSMENT
An extremely distinguished riesling that slowly opens up in the glass, this wine reflects the uncompromising criteria used in fruit selection. It has a purity of flavour and exceptional balance and a natural acidity that carries the wine now and for years to come.

VINEYARD
The Isolation Ridge vineyard at Frankland Estate is farmed under organic principals, we believe this highlights the flavours that are achieved from the unique soils and climate the wine is grown in. The vineyard is planted on undulating northern and eastern facing slopes and the duplex soils of ironstone gravel over loam over a clay sub-soil. The vines are from two different clones, the Geisenheim and Rhine Riesling, planted in 1988. Both Scott Henry and Vertical Shoot trellis systems are used. The long slow ripening periods typical of the Frankland region allow maximum flavour developments while maintaining the distinctive racy acidity and dry finish for which riesling is renowned.

VINIFICATION
Grapes are pressed immediately with the juice left to settle in tank over night before being racked and fermentation introduced. Our aim is to minimise intervention in order to obtain the purest and finest expression of the pristine fruit from the Isolation Ridge vineyard. This wine was fermented in tanks and (neutral) oak at low temperatures (less than 14 deg C) over 12 weeks. Vines are all dry grown practicing organic viticultural techniques.
