Balgownie Estate
Established by the now legendary winemaker Stuart Anderson in 1969, Balgownie Estate was the first vineyard planted in the Bendigo district in more than 80 years. The emergence of Balgownie Estate as a serious red wine producer in the 1970's led to the rapid expansion of the central goldfields wine growing region and was a significant player in the rebirth of the Victorian wine industry.
This small crop was hand harvested from 33 year old and 28 year old estate vines in excellent condition. The fruit was whole bunch pressed to French oak barriques (30% new) and was fermented to dryness over a period of 6 weeks. This wine was oak matured for 11 months with traditional lees stirring to enhance mouthfeel and yeast derived complexity.
