Pinot Gris is perfectly suited to the Adelaide Hills, where the altitude of the vineyards moderates the climate, giving us cool conditions during the growing and ripening season. This maximises fruit character and ensures the retention of natural acidity in the grapes.
Nepenthe have made Pinot Gris since 1998. Through-out this period they have stayed true to their aim of highlighting the variety’s intriguing varietal character, yet reflecting the influence of each individual vintage.Winemaking
All Nepenthe Pinot Gris is exclusively hand picked. After the rapid transfer to the winery, the grapes are whole bunch pressed to minimise phenolic extraction. We have always fermented some of the wine in one to two year old French oak barrels. 40% of the wine was fermented in oak, with the remainder fermented in stainless steel tanks. The oak fermented portion spent 2 months on yeast
lees, with regular stirring, before being racked and combined with the tank-fermented wine.
