Wine: Art Series Chardonnay
LEEUWIN ESTATE
An iconic, boutique family-owned and operated producer, Leeuwin Estate was one of the five founding wineries of the famous Margaret River district in Western Australia. With its warm, gentle summers, mild winters, ample rainfalls, rich soils and consistent growing seasons, the Estate produces Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz, releasing its wines under Leeuwin Estate’s ‘Art Series’, ‘Prelude Vineyards’ and ‘Siblings’ labels.
Originally a cattle farm, Leeuwin Estate evolved, under the direction of Denis & Tricia Horgan, with Robert Mondavi acting as consultant and mentor. Leeuwin’s philosophy of adhering to excellence has earned the Estate an outstanding international reputation.
James Halliday has written, "Leeuwin Estate is a class act, every facet of its business working with the precision of a Swiss watch. It stands at the very forefront of estate-based, family owned wineries, its chardonnay widely regarded as Australia’s finest, ranking with the world’s best.”
Tasting Notes
The colour is a brilliant straw green. An incredibly complex and lifted bouquet of ripe golden pear skin, peach, savoury toasted ground almonds and white nectarine. This wine is showing multiple layers of fruit and subtle class driven French oak. The result of very low yielding vines matched with subtle winemaking preserves the richness and intensity of fruit.
The palate displays a full bodied vibrant wine on the entry, with a creaminess and intense purity of fruit. Pear, nectarine and peaches are the main fruit flavours followed by a subtle sweet spice and almonds. The flavours are seamlessly long with a wonderful natural acid finish.
