Established in 1961, Poliziano has in the space of forty years moved from the original nucleus of 22 hectares purchased by owner Dr. Federico Carletti’s father, to 240 hectares, of which 120 are cultivated with DOC and DOCG vineyards, 20 hectares being dedicated to the production of this wine Ross di Montepulciano. Rosso di Montepulciano may be produced from vineyards permitted for Vino nobile, however Poliziano have elected to designate vineyards with the most suitable characteristics for the production of a young, fruity, full-bodied yet not aggressive wine. This decision has enabled Federico Carletti to gain valuable experience and today produce this modern style wine, exemplary of the best of the Poliziano estate.
Terrain: Sandy clay soils rich in marine deposits.
Grape Varieties: Sangiovese Prunolo Gentile 80% Merlot 20%
Method: The varieties are fermented separately in stainless steel vats, with the alcoholic fermentation lasting about 8-10 days, at a maximum termperature of 30 degrees celsius. The wine remains in stainless steeel until bottling, in April of the year followin harvest. The wine spends a brief period in bottle prior to release.
Tasting Notes
Poliziano Rosso di Montepulciano is a supple fruity wine for earlier drinking, with a voluptuous, textured palate, enhanced by the addition of Merlot. The finish is dry and extremely satisfying.
Service: Serve at around 16-18 degrees Celsius. A particularly versatile dry red table wine for accompanying pasta and pizza, Tuscan specialties such as pasta e fagioli.
