Shaw + Smith
Shaw + Smith is an alliance between cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill-Smith. Their aim is to make contemporary, high quality wines that are outstanding examples of their type made from grapes grown in the Adelaide Hills.
Shaw + Smith specialise in grape varieties suited to the cooler climate of the Adelaide Hills, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay & Shiraz.
The vineyard is located on a 28 ha property planted at Woodside Vineyard with new plantings of Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Noir at Balhannah.
Shiraz 2022
The wine has lovely fresh aromatics of red berries, which is followed on the palate by intense pure fruit notes including raspberry and blueberry. The palate is long and layered, with ample fine tannins, and background notes of clove and black pepper.
Aromas of flowers, peppery spice, summer berry pudding, and barely there oak herald a silky palate of real concentration. Finely tuned backbone of tannins.
Ageing? Yes, two to 10 years.
Food ideas Beef fillet; roasted vegetables with cous cous, toasted almonds and dried fruit.
