Jane and Andrew Mitchell established the winery in 1975 on the Mitchell family property in the Western Hills of the Clare Valley.
Made entirely from fruit grown in their own vineyard at Watervale. This vineyard was planted in 1960 and has always been hand pruned and has never been irrigated. It only ever yields around 2 ton per acre which gives the wine a great depth of flavour.
Maturation: Made in the very traditional, low intervention style that we have used for the last 30 years. Hand harvested fruit treated very carefully in the winery with only free-run juice used.
Mitchell Watervale Riesling 2024
Vinification
A traditional, low intervention style that we have used for the last 40 years. Our old dry-grown vines grew a wonderfully balanced crop with small berries but great flavour development. The grapes are hand harvested and treated very carefully in the winery with only the highest quality free-run juice used. The wine experiences a long gentle fermentation with our indigenous vineyard yeasts and is aged on lees until bottling in the first week of September.
Aroma
A powerful, concentrated aromatic intensity showing lemon, lime and spring flowers on the nose.
Palate
Lemon, lime and spring flowers on the nose. The palate has immense generosity of fruit flavour and incredible mineral complexity and length.
Cellaring Potential
The quality of the vintage will reward cellaring this wine for more than a decade.
