Clare Valley, South Australia.
Pale straw colour with green edge.
Nose: Typically floral with powerful aromas of lime. Lifted grassy aromas abound with parsley, green fruits, pear and a hint of pineapple.
Palate: Very delicate flavours dominated by lemons; precise acid. Quite a rich mouthfeel, slightly saline with lychee giving an exotic twist.
There are two sub-regions that consistently produce the best wines from Clare, Polish Hill River and Watervale.
The interesting part is that the primary fruit aromas and flavours from Watervale are completely different to those from Polish Hill River.
Polish Hill River is all about restrained aromatics, fine delicacy and raw power in the mouth. Watervale is all about big lifted grassy notes and a palate of sweet lemony goodness. The differences are as stark as night and day. Where Polish Hill River is tightly wound, Watervale is generous and relaxed. Where Polish Hill River displays crisp mineral purity, Watervale gives luscious tropical intensity.
