Hochkirch wine tasting
17 February 2011
Last week we held a tasting of the wines from the Hochkirch vineyard which is situated at Henty in South Western Victoria. We were prompted to revisit the Hochkirch wines after pulling a couple of bottles of the Hochkirch Maximus Pinot Noir 2003 from the cellar.
The wine was a knockout, drinking beautifully, probably near it’s optimum. We had on tasting the 2009 Riesling, the 2008 Steinbruch Pinot Noir, the 2006 Shiraz. and we had the release 2009 Maximus Pinot Noir.
Owner and winemaker John Nagorcka practises Bio Dynamic viticulture and has full Demeter certification. It is worth mentioning that this practice has led John having no 2011 vintage as he does not spray and powdery mildew has decimated his crop.
I will post tasting notes in the next blog.
