Wine tasting highlights
25 May 2014
Thanks to all who made the Wineseek tasting last week a great evening.
Made all the more lovely by having a number of our country based customers make the trip to Melbourne, it wonderful to catch up.
A great range of really interesting wines was enjoyed by all.
Kilikanoon Mort’s Block Riesling 2013. Exceptional wine from a sensational vintage for this variety in the region citrus, lime and lemons on the nose and palate, with racy acidity.
Stella Bella Sauvignon Blanc 2012. The Margaret River produces some of our best savvies and this one is outstanding all were impressed by its texture and depth of flavour.
Dexter Chardonnay 2012. From a pretty awesome vintage on the Peninsula, this is a class wine. A hint of the Burgundian on the nose. Beautiful fruit, peach a hint of lemon and subtle oak on the palate, yum!
Stanrock Pinot Noir 2011. A pinot’s colour can deceive and the light hue of this wine defies its weight and structure. Plum, cherry, smokey oak for the price stunning value and the tasters agreed.
Squawking Magpie Gimblett Gravels ‘Stone Crow’ Syrah 2012. Pepper, spice, fine grain tannins and a lick of oak, a sublime syrah from the famed Gimblett Garvels area of Hawkes Bay N.Z.
3 Drops Merlot 2011. From the Great Southern region of W.A - a beautifully balanced wine, plums and berry fruits with soft tannins along with the cedary characters of the French oak.
Jed Wines Malbec 2012. From Argentina this is sub $20 drinking treat. Full fruit flavours of cherry and blackberry with a subtle spicy lick and fine ripe tannins, with breathing this wine improved immensely over the evening.
Look forward to seeing you all at the next tasting. It is going to be a ripper, an all Italian treat.
Kind regards, Michael @ Wineseek
