Kilikanoon Wine Tasting
Join me for a tasting with the winemaker from J. Halliday’s Winery of the Year 2013, Kevin Mitchell from the Kilikanoon Vineyard in the Clare Valley.
This is a tasting not to be missed, Thursday evening the 18th October from 5.30 pm to 8 pm.
Kevin will be showing us all the following wines, the pick of the crop from his range.
Sparkling Vouvray Methode Traditionnelle that he makes in France. Elegant, fresh, with aromas of pears and apples, Kilikanoon Vouvray is an affordable alternative for those seeking the traditional French bubbly experience and with the warmer weather upon us this wine is the perfect bubbles.
Kilikanoon Morts Block Riesling 2012. Brilliant in clarity, pale straw in colour with youthful green tints. Lemons and citrus aromas predominate nose, superbly enhanced by floral notes and perfumes. The palate is generous with the flavours of limes, lemons and citrus carry over seamlessly from the nose. A wine that drinks wonderfully now but will keep for many a year. (94 points J. Halliday)
Killermans Run Shiraz Grenache 2010. Brick red in colour with youthful crimson hues. The nose exudes perfumed notes of dark fruits, licorice and black olive combine beautifully with the characters of older French oak, spice and char. On the palate the classic flavours of the Shiraz and Grenache complement each other perfectly, the gentle tannins, earthiness and older French oak generously contributing to its long persistent palate finish.
Blocks Road Cabernet 2009. Inky red in colour with youthful crimson hues. The nose displays hints of tobacco leaf, ripe blackcurrants and dark chocolate notes come together wrapped up in quality French oak spiciness. A palate built to age, focused, supple, yet with a distinguishing textural backbone, one that blends dark fruits, tobacco leaf and fine oak char in a satisfying and lingering finish. (93 points J. Halliday)
Covenant Shiraz 2009. Bright red in colour with youthful crimson hues. Intensely focused and expressive of dark fruits, licorice, wild olives and quality French oak spices on the nose. Richly apportioned with layers of complexity, fruit weight and flavour persistence, the palate combines dark fruits, cooking spices and chocolate notes, beautifully supported by the characters of quality French oak. (92 points J. Halliday)
Oracle Shiraz 2009. Brick red in colour with youthful crimson hues. On the nose well defined and complex, a barrage of dark fruits, chocolate and liquorice notes, well supported by quality French oak char. A palate full of expression and textual splendour, dark cherries, rich chocolate notes, and smoky French oak flavours carry over from the nose and blend divinely with finely balanced tannins and acidity. A wine to enjoy now or to further reward with careful cellaring. (95 points J. Halliday)
Tasty nibbles to complement the wines as always so please RSVP to enable me to cater for you.
