Hugo McLaren Vale tasting
Plus a 2004 Shiraz back vintage release and a sample of her newly released 2010 Reserve Chardonnay.
The ’04 Shiraz was drinking a treat and with eight years on it gave a good idea of how the current ’09 vintage will age - gracefully.
The surprise packet of the night according to our tasters was the ’09 Cabernet Sauvignon however the wine that was the biggest seller at the tasting was the ’09 Shiraz.
Unwooded chardonnay is usually not my cup of tea, this Hugo has a lemon/lime zing is crisp and clean on the palate and the finish is lovely and dry.
The ’09 Shiraz is bursting with plum and raspberry flavours backed with nutty vanilla oak and black pepper.
The ’09 Cabernet is aged in predominantly French oak, both old and new that adds a complexity and depth to this wine that exudes beautiful blackberry flavours and spicy herbaceous notes.
Reserve Chardonnay 2010 displays great complexity, citrus and stone fruit aromas and subtle spices flavours, a hint of vanilla oak and great length on the palate.
A great tasting of a quality range of wines and all are extraordinary good value.
Cheers, Michael @ Wineseek.
