Saturday on Sydney Road.
We had visitors from Qld staying with us for a friend’s wedding last weekend. Saturday turned out to be a terrific day as we took them on a walking, shopping, eating and drinking tour of our local area. And the day was topped that evening with out friends fantastic wedding ceremony and reception.
Breakfast was at Tom Phat on Sydney Road, sensational, their roti omelette, Vietnamese fried eggs and a wonderful king fish and rice dish shared between the four of us. Next it was off down the road to the Mediterranean Wholesalers to show them the fantastic array of Italian produce. Then on to Bas Foods to check out the great range of nuts, spices - and their meat section, great for goat.
Lunch was next and on the way home and we stopped in at the Metropolis Eating House. Fantastic French style Bistro food, we shared a number of tasty offerings. We sampled aired dried Waygu, duck liver parfait, and fig and beetroot chutney, goat cheese in brick pastry with pinenut, mint and honey, a scallop tartare with basil, curry, pumpkin and carrot foam and char grilled calamari with cumin, garlic and coriander. We washed this down with a bottle of French pinot gris. Great food, service and amazing value.
It was then back home for an afternoon siesta before preparing for our friends wedding that evening at Matteo’s Restuarant in North Fitzroy.
