Voyager Estate 2009 Shiraz
24 March 2011
Voyager 2009 Shiraz will be released at the beginning of April.
The 2007 vintage of this wine - lauded as better than Grange by one wine scribe - sold out Australia wide in two weeks. After tasting the 2009 this week I rate it better than the ’07 and ’08 - it is a seriously magnificent wine.
This 2009 Voyager Estate Shiraz is the essence of a cool climate Shiraz and unlike the previous vintage, which had 5% Malbec included, the ’09 Shiraz has just 1% Viognier. The wine displays a vivid intense colour. The nose has perfumed earthy hints, blackberry fruits, spiciness with a lick of anise and cedary oak. The palate oozes with dark fruit flavours, blackberry, blueberry, spicy white pepper and a hint of anise. All this is well balanced with oak, and fine tannins. A class act.
